Summer lawn care in Ann Arbor

Posted by admin on Aug 11, 2010

It is August now and the livin’ is easy in Ann Arbor.

I’ve spot treated for weeds with Weed-B-Gone twice since May. That has kept the weeds down in general. The problem is that the crabgrass has gone wild this summer and I let it get ahead of me.

So I got some crabgrass only killer and applied it to the Ann Arbor acre. Two days later I get a lot of dead spots in the lawn, but a lot of crabgrass that doesn’t seem have been bothered. I think I may have gotten a bad batch of crabgrass killer.

A May Update on My Ann Arbor Acre

Posted by admin on May 9, 2010

In an earlier post I mentioned that if you can be consistent it doesn’t take that much effort to have a reasonably nice lawn.

Well it is early May and I needed to:

1. Put on some fertilizer.

2. Do another round of spot Weed-Be-Gone.

3. Of course cut the grass some more.

4. Pick up a bunch of limbs that have fallen off my various trees.

After 18 years here it is a joy to walk the yard.

Spring Lawn Care in Ann Arbor

Posted by admin on Apr 22, 2010

April is almost over and Spring is certainly upon us. I’ve already been doing some lawn care.

The lawn has been mowed once already and needs it again in the next couple days. We had the riding lawn mower tuned up by Mobile Mower Repair.

I also did some “Weed Be Gone” spot spraying and some “Rapid Grow For Lawns” spraying.

Things are starting to get green but I need somebody to take over the cutting.

I also talked to a neighbor about borrowing his lawn roller and I found out he even has a plug aireator. (However that is spelled.)

What Care Your Ann Arbor Lawn Needs

Posted by admin on Jan 14, 2010

In my experience a lawn will stay alive if you treat it reasonably here in Ann Arbor. And a lawn can flourish if you give it some special care throughout the year.

Here is what I mean:

A lawn can survive like a park or school yard if you just don’t let it get smothered with leaves in the fall and you keep it cut (don’t cut it too short) during the growing season. It will get weeds, but the weeds will still be mostly green so they won’t be too noticeable unless you are standing on the lawn.

You’ll need to cut it enough that at any given time you aren’t cutting more than 1/3 of the grasses length.

If you want a lush green lawn you will need to water it during the summer, make an effort to kill weeds during the growing season, and fertilize it a couple times a year.

You take care of your grass and it will take care of you!
